 TCS Basketball First Year Boys

The first year boys played their opening game of the season away to a very strong St. Colmcille’s CS, Knocklyon. With many first time players on the TCS side we struggled against a far superior Knocklyon side. The Knocklyon lads capitalised on our inexperience and put away several early baskets off the fast break.

Some solid defence from Emmanuel Awe and Mohammad Moawi allowed TCS to stop the constant barrage of attacks. Great movement from Sean Cahill, Dylan Gahan O’Rourke and Dex Goffri helped create some opportunities on the other end of the court. Tenacious rebounding from Kelly Okoeguale led to our first and only basket of the game.

The lads fought well on defence but were beaten by a quicker, more experienced team who will go far in the competition. I hope the lads took a lot from their first game and use this to build in the future. They showed great potential for their first time out and can expect to improve immensely in the future.

Second Year Boys Basketball (Thursday 26.01.2017)

The second years boys racked up their second comprehensive win on the road. The lads played an extremely fast paced game from the offset. Knocklyon could not keep up with our slick passing and tactical movement. Evan Fleming opened up the scoring, quickly followed by Frances Price with a lovely put back.

Jason Stafenuca took charge as point guard and moved the ball well. Some strong drives to the board from Jason added to our tally. Our phenomenal offense was matched equally by our defense, with Andrew Gooding and Luke Doyle solid as ever playing point and guard respectively.

The second quarter saw five new players come in. The lads did not let the intensity levels drop. Dogged defense from Hamzat Salam really frustrated Knocklyon and caused several turnovers. Ryan Lawlor caught every rebound in centre, which created several chances for John Duffy and Jordan Maguire playing in guard.

We closed the game out with scores from John Duffy, Evan Fleming and Filip Zygarlowski. Jason Stefanuca stepped up to sink an open three before the end to put the game to bed. Another outstanding performance from the second year boys.
