'JCSP –Who Wants to be a Word Millionnaire?'
The students of 1 Beech and 2 Beech are making an excellent effort at trying to reach the target of reading one million words. Each class is aiming to reach the target before the Easter holidays.
This is a short-term reading intervention which challenges a class group of JCSP students to engage in recreational reading, at home with the support of their parents, and to collectively read a total of one million words.
The words of each book is counted weekly and the total is recorded.
Popular books amongst the students in 1 Beech are books by Roald Dahl, including 'Danny the Champion of the World,' 'The Witches' and 'James and the Giant Peach'. Books about various sports cars called'Subaru', 'Ferrari' and Audi TT were also very popular.1 Beech have currently read 365,000 words-nearly at the half a million mark.
Books by Roald Dahl were equally popular among students in 2 Beech but the various books from the 'Diary of a Wimpy Kid collection were also popular. Books from the Barrington Stokes Publishing Company like Assassin by Tony Bradman and Briggsy by Isla Fisher were also popular as the stories are especially aimed at teenagers.
2 Beech have read almost 500,000 words
Well done to all!!!
