TCS students at Campaign Academy

TCS at Campaign Academy

On the 9th November 2018, a group of seven TY students took part in a workshop called ‘Campaign Academy’ run by the charity Concern. These students will take part in a series of seven workshops over the course of the year to teach them how to become campaigners in their own community. The topic of the campaign will be about Climate Change and looking at the impact it is having and what we can do to help.

Six different schools took part in the first workshop and took part in ice-breaker activities to find out about each other and to find out what they knew about Climate Change.
They discussed how climate change is affecting the world we live in today, learning about examples like the forest fires in California, extreme weather in Ireland and how the Arctic had the hottest temperatures ever recorded in history this year. They discussed how, if the earths average temperature increased by two degrees, the consequences earth would face, how there would be a major loss of habitat for plants and animals, and how it would also affect human development.

The students also learned about the 17 development goals set up by the UN that will hopefully be reached by the end of 2030, the aim is to make the planet better for everyone.

Finally, the students focused on what they could do individually, in their community, and globally. They hope to do a project in our school to create some positive changes regarding climate change.  We look forward to a year working with Campaign Academy and becoming campaigners!!
