Students of Mr Gueret's First Year English class recently explored the power of media in bringing the words of a story to life.
They watched this year's John Lewis Christmas advertisement 'The Bear and the Hare' and were set the challenge of creating their own digital stories based on the spirit of the festive season.
Using the online programme 'Animoto', the young writers put their imaginative skills to the test. They each had to create a storyboard consisting of words, images, video clips and a range of media centred on the theme of Christmas. Students were asked to choose a film design and score that would contribute to the telling of the stories.
The entries were an exercise in imagination and not without their literary mistakes. However, the purpose of this assignment was the brainstorm, plan, structure and develop their stories in a stimulating and audio-visual manner.
Students learned that there are so many methods that they can use to create new worlds, characters and journeys through the vehicle of their imaginations.
