BT Young Scientist 2012-13

It looks like it’s the boys versus the girls in the battle for the prize of Tallaght Community School’s most promising young scientist!

For 48 Years the BT Young Scientist Competition has provided a platform for Ireland’s young scientific minds.  With over 2,000 entries annually, the competition is tough and only the best and most original projects make the final cut.  The 550 projects selected will compete for various prizes in the RDS in January 2013.

u16_girls_basketball_2012-13

The U16 Girls basketball team met with Pobailscoil Setanta on November 19th.  The girls were unlucky at the basket for the first half. They played great defence but were unfortunate not to have more points for themselves. The girls were defeated 20 points to 9 points by a strong team.
The U16 team were out again on November 23rd travelling to Collinstown Park Community School which turned out to be a very exciting game.  TCS were trailing by 2 points at half time with great baskets coming from Casey Donnelly and Victoria O Brien. The girls showed great determination. Muina Hussein scored the basket to bring TCS back into the game. Lauren Enright played superb defence. The sides were level again going into the final quarter. Two baskets from Rachel Crowley and Casey Donelly secured the win for TCS. The game finished Tallaght CS 16 Collinstown Park 12

Students in TCS are busy putting the finishing touches to this year's musical extravaganza - Hairspray.  No doubt familiar to many more mature rockers, this TCS version promises to render the musical in a fresh way - the Tallaght way!  Below the cast take five.

TCS students reap the honours

TCS found itself in the top 50% of Dublin schools for feeder schools to third level in 2011-12, and in the top 40% of non-fee paying schools (according to the Irish Examiner 29/11/12).  The Irish Independent's and the Irish Times' (21/11/12) analysis showed that two out every three students progressed to third level in 2012. The lesson is that hard work earns rewards. Individual students from the Class of  2012 also received recognition.
