Science Week 10-17 Nov 2013

To celebrate science week the students of TCS will be participating in the following events.

On Monday the 11th of November the LCA 6 class will travel to IT Tallaght to attend a science show.   The Show “XTRA-ordinary Science” will be hosted by James Soper (from Bending it like Beckham and The REAL Science of the Circus).  He will take the students on a journey behind what appears to be ordinary to reveal the XTRA-ordinary. Using physics and chemistry demonstrations (including flames and more than one XTRA-ordinary big bang) the show examines the process and practices of science in an interactive, engaging and enjoyable way.

In conjunction with Science week the college of science and Health at DIT have invited four Transition Year students to participate in a Demonstration Lecture called “New Neurons in the brain, what’s their use?”The aim of these lectures is to prove that science is really all around us.  The lectures are designed to excite and promote science.  The students will attend this lecture on Thursday 14th of November in DIT Kevin Street.

Young Scientists

Next stop ... RDS!

Well done to all students who have worked very hard with their entries for the BT Young Scientist competition. This year had a record number of entrants - over 2,000. Only a quarter of the entrants make it to the Exhibition in in the RDS in January. Congratulations to the 5th years: Dyllon Menton, Laura Kelly and Tracy Lyons who will be representing TCS in the finals. Good luck with your project.

Science Olympiad

Congratulations to Michal Grudzien (TY) as he competes in the Irish EU Science Olympiad (EUSO) in Dublin City University this Saturday (26 Oct).  Entry to this event is by invitation, and Michal was selected on the basis of his high achievements in Maths and Science in the Junior Cert examinations 2013. Best of luck Michal from all in TCS.

Musical 2013

What's new Pussycat? It's almost musical time again and this year we are bringing you a show that has never been performed in Ireland. ‘What’s New Pussycat?” is a fun musical that follows the adventures of Puss the talking cat as she makes her way across the kingdom to visit the king and make her master Harry a billionaire. Songs include ‘I want to be a Billionaire’, ‘Material Girl,’ ‘All the Single Ladies’ and other well known hits.

This years cast has a great mix of talent from across the school with students from every yeargroup involved. Whilst some of those involved are returning cast members you will be wowed by all the new talent taking to the stage this year. The question is will you be able guess who is inside the magical horse that takes to the stage in Act 2.

We will be taking to the stage on Wednesday 27th – Friday 29th November at 8pm. Book early to avoid disappointment.
