TY Team Trip 2016

On Tuesday the 27th of September all TY students had the opportunity to attend an overnight retreat in Ovoca Manor Retreat and Adventure Centre which is located in the stunning Vale of Avoca, Co Wicklow.

The purpose of the visit was to help bond the relationship within this year’s transition year group and give them an opportunity to develop a sense of who they are individually.

The students participated in a number of activities, from archery to wall climbing.  The two day event included hours of fun-packed adventure that resulted in an unforgettable experience for the students who participated.

International Languages Week 2016

International Languages Week 2016: 26 – 30 September

Last week we celebrated International Languages Week in TCS. French, German and Spanish teachers organised a range of activities that were ‘out of the ordinary’ language classes. Students were involved in poster competitions, spelling bees, breakfasts, karaoke, quizzes and film clubs.

A highlight of the week was the use of new language apps in class (Kahoot). These mobile apps allow students to revise grammar and vocabulary in a playful way with interactive games and activities.

TCS Languages Week was sponsored by the Goethe Institut Ireland, Instituto Cervantes and the Department of Education of the Spanish Embassy who provided posters and small prizes for students. Thank you for the kind support.

Thanks to all the students who took part in our language survey. It revealed that there are at least 26 different languages represented in TCS (Albanian, Arabic, Belarussian, Bulgarian, Cantonese, English, French, German, Hungarian, Igbo, Irish, Japanese, Latvian, Lithuanian, Luxemburgish, Mandarin Chinese, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Russian, Slovakian, Spanish, Tagalog, Thai, Urdu and Yoruba).

TCS students are fortunate to have the choice to learn either French, German or Spanish as a foreign language. See pics
