TCS Olympic Handball

U14 Dublin Blitz 2010

u14 blitz winnersLast year was a strong year for Olympic Handball in TCS as our boys dominated many of the Blitz competitions and won the South Dublin John Furlong Cup. They have continued their success into this season as they dominated the first blitz of the year and brought home the 1st place trophy.

The competition standard was high and as so many schools had entered the schools had to be divided into two groups. Tallaght faced Colaiste de hIde, St Tiernans, Killinarden CS, in the group competitions. They played St. Aidan’s in the semi final and Drimnagh in the final.

TCS was represented by:
Aaron Conroy, Conor Murray, Jamie Cohan, Liam Nolan, Adam Buckley, Philip O Donovan, Brian Smith, Anthony Shettock  and new 1st year students Aaron Ferguson, Anthony Hopper and James Clarke. Shane McCabe maintained his position as Team-Captain.

The TCS team have trained hard this year and could be found every Monday in the Sports Complex perfecting their skills. This dedication paid off as the Tallaght boys performed in a fair and honest way, with a united effort that saw nobody left warming the bench.

Tallaght v Colaiste de hIde ended 4-1 to Tallaght.
Goals were scored by Adam Buckley (1), James Clarke (1) and Shane McCabe (2).

Tallaght v St. Tiernans ended 7-0 to Tallaght.
Goals were scored by Shane McCabe (4), Conor Murray (2) and Adam Buckley (1).

Tallaght v Killinarden ended 4-4. This was an exciting game, as both Tallaght and Killinarden fielded players that are new to the sport. It was a close match and Tallaght were leading until the final minutes when it became very heated.  Goals for Tallaght were scored by Shane McCabe (3) and Conor Murray (1).

Semi-Final:
Tallaght v St. Aidan’s, Brookfield, ended 4-1 to Tallaght.
Goals were scored by Shane McCabe (3) and Anthony Hopper (1).

Final:
Tallaght v Drimnagh ended 8-4 to Tallaght.
Goals were scored by Shane McCabe (4), Adam Buckley (1), Aaron Conroy (1) and James Clarke (2)

I look forward to the rest of the season and remind other students to contact Ms. L. Kelly or Mr Gueret if they are interested in trying out for Olympic Handball.

Ms. L. Kelly
