A strong second half performance from Tallaght CS saw them claim the honours in this South Dublin Schools League Final. This game was a repeat between the same two sides who clashed in the Leinster Cup back in November when the opposition Oatlands College came out on top after extra time.
Trailing 1-0 at the break having played against the breeze in the opening half, the TCS side turned things around in the second half and easily disposed of Oatlands on a score of 3 – 1. Playing against the breeze TCS conceded a goal after 15 minutes following a defensive lapse of concentration but they never panicked. Rather this seemed to spur them as they created a number of chances through Conor Murray and Adam Buckley as well as substitute Killian Kinsella who out muscled his midfield opponents on every ball.
The TCS youngsters stormed out of the blocks in the second half playing some excellent football and were justly rewarded for their efforts when Aaron Robinson scored from a 30 yard free kick into the roof of the net.
The same player showed great astuteness minutes later when he took a quick free kick to Adam O Dwyer, who blasted to the bottom right of the goals.
2 -1 and TCS in the driving seat, they never relented.
The imperious Epey Mutanga guarded the back and was ably supported by Craig Fallon, the versatile Daragh Monks and the returning holiday maker Aaron O Donoghue. The one opportunity where Oatlands breeched the Tallaght rearguard Dylan Kelly brought off a fine save.
With 15 minutes to go TCS were awarded a penalty for a very poor tackle on the advancing Adam Buckley. Again Aaron Robinson steeped forward and he simply did the rest.
3 – 1!!!
There was no stopping Tallaght the boys at this stage as they tackled every ball and chased every cause in the pursuit of victory. The diminutive but delightful Ryan Burns broke the opposition hearts with his relentless running and through balls which caused Oatlands all sorts of problems.
The final whistle was greeted with joy by the Tallaght team, teachers and supporters who turned up on the afternoon to cheer on this bunch of lads.
The team will now go forward to the next stage of the competition in Dublin and Leinster.
Best of luck in pursuit of more glory!
