The Boys senior soccer squad played their first league game on Wednesday November 11th against Lucan CC.
TCS started strongly and playing with five in the middle created a handful of chances in the opening fifteen minutes. But despite being the brighter of the two sides and having a blatant penalty shout turned down, TCS were the side to concede first and went one nil down going into half-time.
In spite of trailing at half-time, TCS began the second half far more determined and soon began to dominate possession. TCS continued to pile on the pressure and came close when Luke McArdle was through on goal but their keeper made a great save.
Although seeming in control of the game, TCS could have gone two down on a few occasions but Joe Smith pulled off a number of fine saves. The pressure would finally pay off for TCS and from a Craig Smith corner, the opposition goalkeeper fumbled the ball and with it eventually crossing the line to put the game level at 1-1. From there it seemed inevitable that TCS would score again and after McCarthy blocked a Lucan clearance, Smith was in again to give TCS the lead.
With only a few minutes remaining, TCS managed to hold onto the lead and the final whistle was greeted with much relief. The match finished 2-1 to TCS and puts them in a great position going into their next game at home against Hartstown CS.
