The TCS Under-15 Soccer team travelled to Templeogue College in the cup on Friday last (27 Nov '15) and were unfortunate to lose on a penalty shootout. Played on a poor surface, the game was tight with both defences on top and neither side conceding an inch.
TCS defence was anchored superbly by Jordan Conroy and ably assisted by Dyan Burgess.
The first half finished 0-0 following a tight 35 minutes.
The second half saw TCS gain a foothold in the game but were unable to make the chances count, so after full time the game entered extra time.
Following a well swung-in corner, TCS took the lead midway through the first period of extra time when the ball was scrambled to the net following a defensive error.
However, the home side managed to bring it all square in injury time of extra time leaving the game to enter the penalty shootout.
Templeogue emerged winners after penalties, 3-1.
A heartbreaking defeat for the lads who have been excellent since the first meeting and trials.
The effort from the lads could not be faulted on Friday last in trying conditions. However it was not to be and TCS are out of the cup for this year.
Thanks to all the lads who have given of their time to attend meetings, trainings and stay behind after school for games.
